 District Governor, Jerry Lee Thomas
Jerry Lee Thomas was born July 6, 1944, in Bessemer City, North Carolina. He served in the USAF from which he was medically retired. On returning from the Air Force, he graduated from Gaston Community College in 1971 and the
University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1972 with a BA in Business Administration. He and Lion Cathey have been married almost 37 years and moved to Hamlet in Richmond County in 1975.
Jerry worked in the retail furniture business in Hamlet until 1986 at which time he became a math teacher in Richmond County Schools retiring in August 2009. He and Cathey have two children - Lee, 28, who prints packaging bags, and Catherine, 21, who is in her senior year at Appalachian State University majoring in Applied Mathematics, with a minor in Business
Administration. Jerry joined the Hamlet Lions Club in October of 1978. He has served as president twice, as secretary for ten plus years, and has been Lion of the Year. He has serviced the district as Zone Chair twice, as Deputy District Governor, Region Chair, and 1st Vice District Governor. He is a Melvin Jones Fellow, a Jack Stickley Fellow, and a William Woolard Partner in Service. His favorite pastime is reading adventure novels.
